Cadet Scholarship and Award Opportunities

Washington Wing is dedicated to extending invaluable opportunities to deserving, hard-working Cadets, which is why we make funds available for financially burdened Cadets to attend activities in Washington Wing and beyond!

Cadet Activity Scholarships

How much does WAWG contribute?

Typically, WAWG approves scholarships on the grounds that 1/3 of the cost will be paid by Washington Wing, 1/3 will be paid by the Cadet's local squadron, and 1/3 will be paid by the Cadet. This is dependent on funds for the year.

Some squadrons have differing policies on how much of an activity they will help a Cadet with. This is often more affected by the squadron's own financial situation than anything. Because of this, Washington Wing will, under some circumstances, help with up to 50% of the activity cost.

How do I apply?

Cadet Character and Leadership Foundation

CCLF offers scholarships to hardworking and dedicated CAP cadets who would like financial help to attend leadership focused CAP activities. If you are attending a leadership-related National Cadet Special Activity or encampment this summer (or any leadership activity at any time of the year for that matter), the CCLF may grant you a scholarship for a percentage of the activity cost. The application process is extremely simple, and more often than not, the CCLF will graciously provide a scholarship.

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship to help fund a leadership-focused cadet activity that you are attending this summer, check out the Cadet Character and Leadership Foundation website.

Cadet Encampment Assistance Program (CEAP)

Thanks to Air Force support, CAP has special funding available to cover encampment fees and uniforms with an emphasis on serving economically disadvantaged cadets. An inability to afford encampment will not hold back cadets who want to participate in an encampment. Assistance is available to cadets and is targeted towards low-income families and first-time attendees.

Flight Scholarships

By far some of the most rewarding activities in Civil Air Patrol are those aimed at teaching Cadets to fly! Likewise, these activities are often the most expensive to attend. Because of this, Washington Wing encourages Cadets to look outside the Wing for scholarships in addition to and before applying for a cadet activity scholarship from Washington Wing.

Below are some links to scholarships and organizations who provide scholarships to Cadet student pilots, for flying lessons and/or Cadet flying activities. Note that some of these scholarships are only available to Cadets who have already completed a solo flight.

Cadets are also encouraged to contact local chapters of such organizations as the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, and other community clubs that provide scholarships to outstanding young people.
