WSDOT Orientation Course for SAR Aircrew and Mission Base Staff

Deadline to register:            May 17, 2018

Class size may be limited. If so, persons will be selected in the order in which they complete the application process as outlined below.

If you are serious about participating in aerial search and rescue missions in Washington, there are a few steps you must complete before you are eligible for the issuance of a WSDOT Emergency Worker card, which is a prerequisite to participate in aerial search missions in Washington, regardless of your CAP qualifications.

Please follow these steps carefully:

 

1.            COMPLETE THE FEMA IS-700 COURSE

a.            Get FEMA SID (if you do not already have one): To take this online study course, you must first register for a FEMA SID number. Follow the directions on the site below and you will be issued an SID: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/register

b.            Take the test: Review this page and downloadable course material. There is also a link to take a test when you are ready: https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-700.a

c.            Print your course completion certificate as you will need to attach a copy of it to your WSDOT application.

2.            COMPLETE THE FEMA ISC-100 COURSE

a.            Get FEMA SID: Again, you will need an SID to complete this course.

b.            Take the test: Review this page and downloadable course material. There is also a link to take a test when you are ready: https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-100.b

c.            Print your course completion certificate as you will need to attach a copy of it to your WSDOT application.

3.            OBTAIN CURRENT FIRST AID/CPR/AED CARD

a.            Find a class: There are a variety of ways to do this. 

b.            Print your course completion certificate as you will need to attach a copy of it to your WSDOT application.

 

4.            SIGN THE WSDOT NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT

a.            Read this form carefully: WSDOT Non-Disclosure Agreement

b.            Print and sign: Assuming you agree with the provisions, print and sign this form. You will need to attach a copy of it to your WSDOT application.

5.            COMPLETE THE WSDOT VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PACKET

Review this information carefully and fill out the application.

DO NOT SEND THE APPLICATION TO WSDOT.

6.            REGISTER FOR THE WSDOT ORIENTATION COURSE

AGAIN, DO NOT MAIL TO WSDOT. BE SURE TO ATTACH COPIES OF ALL THE CERTIFICATES TO VERIFY COMPLETION OF THE PREREQUISITES

7.         FINAL STEP

Attend the one-day WSDOT orientation course. The course will be given in Olympia on Saturday, 26 May, 2018.

You will receive a confirmation notice with the class location once your packet is accepted.

There are a number of advantages to being a WSDOT Volunteer! For example, you may be entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred on a search mission in some instances where you might not be participating solely as a CAP Member.
